Hearthstone Meta Overview

Classes, archetypes and game plans.

Blizzard’s digital card game is easy to pick up but deep in strategy. The meta revolves around class identity, deck archetypes and resource management.

Classes & Archetypes

Each of the game’s classes — Mage, Hunter, Warrior, Rogue, Priest, Paladin, Shaman, Warlock, Demon Hunter, Death Knight — supports Aggro, Midrange, Control or Combo archetypes depending on card sets. Understand what your class excels at (burn, armor, tokens) and choose decks accordingly.

Mulligan & Resource Management

Mulligan for key early cards: low‑curve minions in aggro, draw and removal in control. Value trades when ahead; go face when you need to push lethal. Count your lethal outs and keep track of opponents’ removals and win conditions.

Improvement Path

Beginners should learn one class and a simple archetype, focusing on mana curve and trades. Intermediate players branch into other classes and learn to adjust play style based on match‑ups. Advanced players tech decks for their local meta and master rope management, hand reading and fatigue scenarios.
