Speedrunning
Categories, routing and practice tips.Speedrunning challenges you to beat games quickly under specific rule sets. This guide covers how categories work, how to learn a run and how to maintain your mental health while chasing PBs.
Categories & Rules
Popular categories include Any% (beat the game by any means), 100% (complete all objectives) and Glitchless. Each game’s community defines when timing starts and stops and what tricks are allowed. Check the rules before starting.
Learning a Run
Pick a category and watch a top run with the rules open. Follow a beginner route, practising the game in chunks. Do a full run early to establish a baseline PB, then refine segments. Use practice tools or emulators if allowed.
Resets & Mental Health
Resets are part of speedrunning, but constant resets can be demoralising. Limit resets to early segments and do no‑reset runs to practise late game. Take breaks when frustrated, and remember that improvement comes gradually.
Practice Structure
Warm up with key movement or trick practice. Spend sessions on specific segments, trick setups or no‑reset full runs. Record and review runs to identify time losses. Balance speedrunning with rest and other activities to avoid burnout.
